Hello

I'm
Dr. Sam
About me
My approach is informed by an understanding of how our experiences shape the ways we think, feel and relate to ourselves and others. I am interested in helping clients make sense of patterns with curiosity and compassion, while keeping a strong emphasis on choice, agency and how you want to move forward.
Some people prefer a more structured approach, while others want space for open exploration. Some find conversation most helpful, while others value creative expression, written reflections or a different level of challenge and support. I see understanding your preferences, goals and ways of working as an important part of building therapy that genuinely fits you.
I also take a whole-person view of mental health. Research consistently shows the close links between emotional wellbeing, physical health and social connection, so where this might feel helpful, our work can include thinking about factors like sleep, exercise, nutrition, and the environments you live and work in. Rather than seeing mental health in isolation, I aim to hold the wider picture of what supports people to feel well.
What can clients expect when working with you?
I work collaboratively and place a strong emphasis on understanding not only what is difficult, but also your strengths, values and hopes for therapy. I tend to view symptoms and coping behaviours as meaningful responses that developed for a reason, often as ways of navigating difficult circumstances or meeting important needs. Therapy can be a space to understand these patterns without judgement, and to decide what still serves you and what may no longer be helping.
Choice is central to how I work. Whatever someone’s experiences have been, I believe there is room to explore different possibilities, new perspectives and meaningful ways forward. The therapeutic relationship is an important part of this process. At times, we may pay attention to what happens between us in the room, using this as another source of insight, understanding and change.
What is unique about how you work with clients?
My professional experience spans a wide range of environments, including NHS mental health services, intensive care, schools and colleges. Working across such varied settings has shaped a therapist who thinks beyond diagnoses or isolated problems, and who pays close attention to the broader systems, relationships and life contexts that influence wellbeing. I bring this wider perspective into therapy, alongside a flexible, thoughtful approach that recognises people as complex, resourceful and capable of change.
Before training as a therapist, I worked as a management consultant in both the UK and Asia. This gave me first-hand insight into the pressures, expectations and cultural contexts that shape how people live, work and experience mental health. It also strengthened my appreciation for different worldviews, communication styles and ways of making sense of emotional wellbeing.

Research expertise
I am currently researching how important it is for therapists to work in ways that match clients' preferences for therapy to have the best outcomes. My research also focuses on the ways technology is shaping mental health and the relationships that we have with the technology we use, particularly artificial intelligence.
I have also researched the impact of psychological safety within the workplace and its effect on identity, performance, and mental health.
